Blue 2013

Tangerine was Pantone’s color of the year in 2012. Citrus colors were shown everywhere from ready-to-wear fashion, home furnishing accessories and rugs to drapery fabrics. Color forecasters are making their predictions as to what will be hot in 2013.  I will go out on a long limb and say that BLUE will be very important next year! Aquatic color themes were a big Runway trend for the Spring 2013 season.

Fashionistas were abuzz about all the blue dresses at the Emmy Awards. Heidi Klum’s powder blue silk chiffon gown by Alexandre Vauthier was a showstopper! Sofia Vergara’s Zuhair Murad beaded dress was a dream in blue! Julianne Hough & Hayden Panettiere looked stunning in blue as well! With all the blue being shown, there may very well be a transfer of new popularity to home furnishings next year.

Wesco Fabrics launches exciting new blue fabrics in late October! Coconino, color Skorpios, is a beautiful printed ikat design on a linen blend. Encanto Stripe, color Sea, is a rustic woven stripe.

Bradington Young’s blue leather wing chairs are very dramatic! We feature Bradington Young’s complete line of furniture in our Wesco Fabrics’ showroom in the Denver Design District.

Flatter Me, color Aqua, is right on trend for spring 2013.

Blue color inspiration comes from many disparate places. The blue glass windows at Antonio Gaudi designed Casa Batllo residence in Barcelona are spellbinding!

Stargazer, color Aquamarine, will definitely be a strong seller in our new fabric collection this fall.

Can you imagine having a color named after your house? The color “Majorelle Blue” is named after the cobalt blue color of Jacque Majorelle’s home which he started designing in the 1920’s. Yves Saint-Laurent & Pierre Berge purchased it in 1980. When Yves died in 2008 his ashes were scattered at Majorelle Gardens.

Shimmering light blue silk shantung draperies in a room designed by Denise Willard look totally elegant!

The façade of the iconic Paris restaurant, Tour D’Argent, is painted in a wonderful shade of blue. Marla and I fondly remember an incredible lunch at this wonderful institution of classic cuisine.

Magnificent shades of blue sea embrace the Capri restaurant & beach club, La Fontelina. We spent a wonderful day here with some of Wesco Fabrics’ top customers.

I love the blue stripes at “da Ferdinando” restaurant on Fornillo Beach in Positano, Italy!

Iridescent blue silk dupioni drapery panels frame a painted vintage cabinet in this sophisticated room design.

***What do you think will be the hot home furnishing color for 2013?

  1. I agree and I think the most important shade is a bright navy. A navy that doesn't look black in certain light and it is also more sophisticated than royal blue.
