Bangkok is a fabulous city for shopping! For luxury shopping Bangkok’s malls are amazing. At the “Siam Paragon” you can buy a Ferrari or designer clothing. Marla and I have hosted Wesco Fabrics’ designers to Thailand, and visits to these luxury malls were always fun. On this journey we will visit some of my other favorite shopping destinations like “Chatuchak Weekend Market.” Once you get off the Skytrain at Mo Chit Station you will be among 200,000 people who visit each day! It’s a blast!
Marla and I are navigating through narrow sois, or lanes, looking for interesting stalls. Maps are readily available and definitely a must! It’s hot and steamy, but many little shops have fans. Marla found a great shop selling stainless flatware. Get ready to start bargaining!
I love Southeast Asian antiques, and I found some superb galleries.
For me there is nothing more exciting than visiting the antique galleries in “River City.” The shops display a mesmerizing array of Thai, Burmese, Cambodian, Chinese and Japanese antiques. “River City” has its own pier on the Chao Phraya River.
The quality is amazing as well as the prices!
After seeing the antique reclining Buddha in the top image we found a beautiful reproduction to sell at the Wesco Fabrics’ showroom in Denver.
The 19th century Buddha Pavilion in the middle image is becoming quite rare these days. I am next to one we have for sale at Wesco Fabrics in Denver.
One of the River City’s galleries had an interesting bedroom vignette. The simply wrapped fabric is elegant and easily changed. We have oodles of Wesco Fabrics that would look great with this!
Bangkok’s newest night market is Asiatique. The developers converted old warehouses on the Chao Phraya River into a fun assortment of shops and restaurants! They even have their own free ferry that runs every 15 minutes from the Saphan Taksin Skytrain Station.
We visited a few very interesting home furnishing galleries at Asiatique. This store was selling a very exotic mix of products!
I hope you enjoyed this Bangkok shopping adventure. On your next trip I am sure you will make many of your own exciting discoveries.
