We all love our favorite beaches. For me, my special beaches are much more than warm sand and beautiful blue sea, they are an album of special memories of places close to home and far away. This is my list of "Best Beach Memories" I truly love. The beach above holds a special place in my heart. It is at the Mauna Lani Beach Club on the Big Island, and I love it! Come with me on this adventure as you may just discover your next favorite beach!

Laguna Beach in Southern California has been a family favorite for many years. Marla vacationed here as a child and we continued the tradition with our family for many years. There are many little hidden beaches nearby which are worth exploring as well.

This is the Pansea Beach on Phuket Island in Thailand. The sand is amazingly soft and the Andaman Sea & the sunsets are spectacular! We have stayed at the Amanpuri Resort, hidden in the trees to the far left and the Surin Resort (Formerly The Chedi) shown above.

Friends from France turned us on to Cannes many years ago, and we have returned many times since. We avoid all the glitz and usually cook most meals in our apartment rental. The fresh produce and other food items at the Forville Market and the nearby Rue Meynadier are amazing!

Marla relaxes at "Riviera Beach Club" in Cannes. This is the first beach we visited when our girls were little. They loved it! It is in the "Midi Beach" area, away from the more expensive beach clubs on the Croisette.  It's a little less hectic and still very fun!

For a total change of pace, the beaches in Sicily's Mazzaro and Isola Bella ( above) are really beautiful and fun!  I can float in the ocean much better here for some crazy reason! The beach clubs have surprisingly good restaurants featuring grilled local fish. Yumm! The terrific town of Taormina is up the hill and can be reached by aerial tram or taxi. I highly recommend this area! Yes, that is Marla floating at the top image. It reminds me of a vintage Slim Aarons photograph from the 60's!

Our friend Philippe turned us on to Le Rocher Restaurant on Lumio Beach in Corsica. It was a little hard to find, but so much fun. Great local cuisine and swimming in the warm sea is steps away. There is a big reason why the island of Corsica is one of France's biggest travel secrets! It is beautiful and has many contrasts of scenery from historic fortress towns, high mountains, and great beaches. The Corsican cuisine is a wonderful blend of French and Italian cooking.

Yes,...that is me stupidly burning at Maenam Beach on the Thai island of Ko Samui. The sand is very fine and the water is warm. Ko Samui has fabulous beaches and is only an hour flight from Bangkok! You can even ride elephants here! It is fun to take a day tour and  explore nearby islands.

The finest sunsets I have ever seen have been at Krabi in southern Thailand! We stayed at the little boutique hotel, Amari Vogue Resort, on the beach. Behind the hotel is a national park with hiking trails in the jungle. Fabulous place with a really superb Italian restaurant!

Bali is not my favorite place for beaches though an exception is Legian Beach which holds many memories for us. On Wesco Fabrics buying trips we always walk on this long and flat beach early in the morning before we go to work. Surfers, especially from Australia, love surfing here as well as Kuta and Uluwatu.

Positano on the Amalfi Coast is one of my very favorite places to visit! We avoid the big beach in town and walk on the coastal path to Fornillo Beach. The sand is rocky, but the sea is warm and the beach club restaurant, Da Ferdinando, is surprisingly good!

Kapalua Beach on Maui is one of Hawaii's most beautiful! Green Sea Turtles (Called 'Honu' in Hawaiian.) often take naps on the beach.

Does a Beach Club have to have sand? Well La Fontelina on Capri doesn't, but we love it anyway. You lay on towels or chairs on the rocks (valuable real estate) and people watch like crazy! "Wait,...was that Jennifer Lawrence?" La Fontelina Beach club is very expensive but quite an experience. You never know what mega yacht is going to anchor nearby and send guests to have lunch in the club's restaurant. See the Youtube video below.

Villefranche sur Mer, between Nice and Monaco, has a great beach and offers a protected bay for swimming with very little wave action. The town is charming & compact and is a nice change of pace from the more glitzy options on the Cote d'Azur.

The beach in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village stands out as my first beach in Hawaii. Many fond memories and still a favorite! Such a classic!

Many visitors to Northern California are surprised at how beautiful Muir Beach is in Marin County. It is just west of Muir Woods. Even though it was an overcast February day our grandson wanted to check out cold water.

Years ago one of our Italian fabric suppliers told us we should visit Sestri Levante on the Italian Riviera. We stayed at an historic hotel on the hill at the upper left. An elevator inside the cliff descended to the beach below. Chairs were perched on giant boulders and and a ladder went into the ocean for swimming. I still remember all the people taking an evening "passeggiata", or stroll, on a path by the upper beach.

The beach at Anse Lazio on Praslin Island in the Seychelles is stunning! We did not enjoy it as well as we should as I had "mal de mer" from the rough seas! The giant tortoises which were amazing!

Let me share a few  beaches I haven't visited but would love to. This is a hidden little beach I spied while cycling on the causeway between Sark and Little Sark, an island in the UK's Channel Islands. I always thought it looked beautiful!

Years ago I purchased an antique French map showing the Ile de Pourquerolles in the South of Franch. It is on my travel radar for sure! The beach above is called "Notre Dame." You get to the island by taking a ferry from Toulon. Very private and underdeveloped. They do have a very chic hotel and restaurant.

Calo des Moro Beach on Mallorca looks fabulous! Mallorca is definitely on my travel bucket list!

We love Bali but spend the majority of our time working or relaxing up in the highlands near Ubud. On the next trip we need to spend more time by sea. This is the Ayana Resort near Jimbaran.
I hope you enjoyed my beach adventure. I would love to hear about your favorite beaches. Respond on the blog or email
