GLASTONBURY: WORLD'S LARGEST MUSIC FESTIVAL. 5 DAYS OF AMAZEMENT!

Music has always been very important to me. Even as a very small boy I remember listening to Opera. Seeing music performed live has always been my favorite! There is nothing like the electricity of live concerts whether in large venues or small clubs. I've seen Bowie, James Brown, Prince, Pavarotti, U2, R.E.M, Ramones, The Stones, The Grateful Dead, Michael Jackson, The Eagles, Santana, Coltrane, and countless others over the years. There is one concert festival I wish I could have attended,... Glastonbury , the world's largest outdoor music festival!  I've added links at the end of this post with highlight videos of some of the more interesting performances at this year's festival. I'm definitely not 25 anymore, but it sure would be fun to experience Glastonbury in person! Come along with me as we explore this totally amazing event.

The Glastonbury Festival takes place on over 900 acres in South West England. More than 150,000 people attended this year and all the tickets sold out in 26 minutes! There are many giant stages for big acts as well as tiny stages for small acts. Glastonbury really comprises many individual festivals, each with their own culture and style.  Festival profits go to charities such as Greenpeace, Oxfam, etc. Some factoids: The main stage has 250 speakers. There are over 2000 volunteer stewards, 4000 toilets, and 400 food stalls. It is like "Woodstock" on massive steroids!

It rained like crazy for much of this year's festival so "Wellington Boots", or "Welly's" as they are called in Britain, were a must! Most everyone camps out so picking a dry spot is a top priority!

The gigantic "Pyramid Stage" featured acts like Adele, Coldplay, and Muse, etc. I've never seen concert fans like those at British festivals, often clapping overhead, totally in sync together, and singing each song like it was their own!

Electronic music is featured throughout the festival stages but there is nothing quite like those fire breathing spiders at Glastonbury's "Metamorphosis Arcadia Spectacular"!!!

Coldplay closed out the festival, and they were really on!

Canadian performer Grimes is really a fresh talent and very unusual!

If you think the last hippies died out long ago... guess again!

Everyone gets their chance to play in front of an audience.

Glastonbury concert goers express their personal style!

Many dress up for their favorite bands. You gotta love it!!!

I love this "Double Decker" tea stop! "White tea please,...and yes I'll take a scone!"
