2017.... MY YEAR IN REVIEW

CURRENT STATE OF MIND
Edgy Contentment.

WHAT'S ON MY 2018 GPS?
Develop more empathy for others, especially those with a totally different worldview. I will open more doors of understanding and live a bit more outside my bubble. I want to be more mellow and kind. I enjoy being involved in the zeitgeist of the moment, though a "volume" button will be close at hand to modify the input. I will be a strong partner, mentor, curious, and a connector to the new.

WHAT WAS MOST DIFFICULT FOR ME IN 2017?
Selling our company to a competitor in January, keeping the real estate. Marla's
parents founded Wesco Fabrics 71 years ago. Intricately woven into our lives, this has been a difficult, emotional journey. The daily work necessary to sell the buildings and close the books should be completed by next year. Transitioning to a semi-retirement mode is an interesting journey of self-discovery.

FAVORITE DINNERS IN 2017
My very favorite dinner was with Marla at home. I set a celebratory table, served Saltimbocca Alla Romana (Courtesy of "Chianti's"), and a Super Tuscan wine. "Wowza!" Another great evening was the birthday dinner party given by our fabulous daughter Lisa for her Mom. My favorite dinner in a restaurant this summer was at Zaranda on the island of Mallorca.

FAVORITE ACTIVITY
Watching our grandchildren playing together!

FAVORITE MOVIES OF THE YEAR
There are so many great movies this year! Really enjoyed Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, Dunkirk, Wonderwoman, Lady Bird, and Star Wars. Also, Quiet Passion, and I'm Not Your Negro. Can't wait for Phantom Thread, The Post, & The Florida Project.

FAVORITE IMAGE OF THE YEAR
The image of my Mom blowing out a candle for her 98th birthday in San Francisco!

WHAT AM I THE MOST PROUD OF THIS YEAR?
These three wonderful women! Mar and our daughters Lisa and Stacy are full of love, kindness, and epitomize Sheryl Sandberg's "Lean In" qualities of life balance.

FAVORITE LUNCH IN 2017
Lunch on our deck, especially with our family, is on my best list! The second favorite was with my nephew Steven and his wife Karen from Edinburgh, and Kathy and Philippe from Paris, at a wonderful restaurant in Port Soller Mallorca.

THE BEST POLITICAL ACTION GROUP IN 2017
Anytime we get together with my simpatico high school friends in the Bay Area. It was a super blast this year! Thank you, Linda, Nancy, and Patty. Marla and David too!

WHAT DROVE ME BONKERS THIS YEAR?
Politics and politicians in general!

MY FAVORITE ACTIVITY OVER 10,000'
Hiking in the mountains above Vail.

FAVORITE BIKE RIDE OVER 10,000' THIS YEAR
Riding the "east" route up to Vail Pass.

FAVORITE 2017 SUNSET

FAVORITE 2017 JOURNEY
Anywhere near the sea. This was just north of Bodega Bay. You can totally feel all those negative ions!

BEST JOURNEY DOWN MEMORY LANE IN 2017.
At the old dirt track at Pleasant Hill High School in Northern California. The track was the catalyst for so many positive events in my life.

FAVORITE MUSEUM IN 2017
We visited so many this year in Madrid, Paris, San Francisco, Dallas, and Denver. My very favorite was California Museum of Science in Golden Gate Park with our Grandsons.

GREAT FACEBOOK "FRIENDS" MOMENTS THIS YEAR

So many terrible natural disasters from flooding in Texas, fires in Northern and Southern California, and the hurricane in Puerto Rico.
